Professional E-Commerce Web Design Services
All projects have their challenges and misunderstandings are possible. However, I had a specific set of "design specific" deliverables which were agreed to prior to hiring and funding the first milestone.
We set it up in writing to avoid misunderstandings later. The basic requirements were a "professional designer" with at least some training and knowledge of color pallets, proper spacing, proper alignment and layout. I made it completely clear, I'm not interested in hiiring a programmer who does some design related work; not someone who knows how to use a design app, but does not have real design skills. The requirements were specifically things like: "properly align images," "you do not have images stretched" or "you do not change the images to extra large size," "you properly space the design," "you format the text on the page a specific way."
Screenshot examples and very detailed brief on all points was agreed to by the provider before the contract began. He assured me he has a professional designer in his agency who can do this job well. He sent me website designs supposedly from the design that will do my design work. Apparently, his "samples" and "portfolio of designs" is NOT from the person I thought I hired (a team design portfolio from various agency members). If it was then they did my work with their eyes closed. Now I wonder if the sample designs are from anyone in his agency. If his work is on caliber with the "design portfolio/design examples he should me before the hiring decision was made, he would know "what a professional designer means" to meet the basic qualifications for hire of this project.
What I received was an "invented project" not following the requirements or instructions. After 2 weeks I received a design riddled with spacing, alignment errors, no color pallet options/changes as required in the contract and other matters.
The main objective was to complete a design (I already had 70%), but felt is was not ready to be published I due to design issues to be resolved, formatting of the text , change color pallet, create a professional looking "product area," further designing and development of the overall design of an ecommerce site including the long body area of the page.
The supposed deliver was a "smoke and mirrors show" that made it seem like a lot of work had been done. I received 7 versions of his work that had little or nothig to do with my specific project or the requirements for delivery.
It was like the provider thought it was a completely new design from scratch without any instructions, no specific objective and no requirements; that he could get a low skill developer (not a designer) and just move things around. Very little time or thought was ever put into this work even by the "no designer designer in his agency." Glaring errors were spotted that were just careless mistakes by someone plowing through this in haste. Someone doing the work this sloppy and creating completely obvious mistakes, would never be someone who would sit down and read what they were hired and what they contracted to deliver.
I went through each item in the requirements we agreed would be delivered when I received this extremely poor work. I received another deceptive "smoke and mirrors" response with excuses and scapegoating why he can't do what the project agreement clearly states in plain, simple English (and already discussed and agreed by him). Basically, after only receiving about 10% of the agreed items completed and 90% completely missing, he refuses to do anything, but send me inept messages that drain the resources of our company.
Nearly a month has been wasted with this agency and individual. From his profile it would seem the results would be different. However, when dealing with numerous unknown individuals in the agency and likely sent to someone I would never hire, this project was a complete failure on his part. I feel he misrepresented the design skills of whoever he sent my project to and was never serious about deliverying what he contracted to do in this milestone/contract.
Honestly, this design looks like a kid did it. The glaring errors and new errors that were never there and need to be fixed by someone else (a real designer). This is pathetic and unacceptable to get a result like this after so much time invested and taking him at his word.
