Remote Trainer -workplace training - ChatGpt
Courtney agreed on very short notice to provide our small staff with an introductory training on the use of ChatGPT, for which I was initially very grateful. She was responsive, flexible with scheduling, and able to step in just 48 hours before the session.
Unfortunately, the overall experience left our team feeling disappointed and overwhelmed. Although the session was framed as a 1.5-hour introduction to ChatGPT, the first 45 minutes was spent introducing another tool, “Notion.” She explained that Notion was necessary for keeping a library of prompts, but also acknowledged that a simple spreadsheet could serve the same purpose. I never agreed that this tool would be included in the training, and my staff found it confusing and off-topic.
When I tried to gently redirect the conversation back toward our original objective—helping staff understand how to use ChatGPT effectively—Courtney responded curtly, essentially saying, “Let me do my thing.” This was uncomfortable and undermined my role in front of my team.
Ultimately, only about 20 minutes of the training was dedicated to ChatGPT itself. That portion was brief and lacked the depth or interactivity we were hoping for. To her credit, Courtney did share some excellent examples of prompt structure (during the Notion introduction) and those moments were the most valuable part of the session.
As we reached the end of our scheduled time, I allowed her to continue for an extra 10 minutes to finish her presentation, hoping we could still reserve a few minutes for questions. However, when I attempted to transition the group to discussion, she again insisted on finishing her slides and cut me off mid-sentence in front of the team.
In the end, the training left staff feeling more confused than confident about ChatGPT. While Courtney clearly has expertise and passion for the subject, the session did not align with our goals, and her communication style created tension and frustration for the group.
