Bioinformatics Software Developer - Data Scientist

In 2019 I got a full-time contract with a retail business company as data analyst and got subsequently promoted to data scientist. My responsibilities as data scientist and software developer are to organise and maintain the in-cloud databases, design data collection and cloud migration systems, discover hidden features and make market predictions with the analysed data, hold meetings and prepare presentations using interactive visualisation tools, effectively communicate results to the marketing and sales team, develop machine learning models for a more functional and unsupervised warehouse management.
Two years into the contract I completed a Business Analytics and Statistics professional certificate with Harvard Business School online, I started my second BSc in Data Science with focus on statistics and started a professional certificate program in Genome and Genetics with Stanford University. I am also part of a certified university program with focus in machine learning for bioinformatics applications with the famous Normale di Pisa in Italy.
This academic experience has granted me with the necessary expertise and competences to allow a switch of sector from retail business to healthcare. I very quickly started developing models for Genome analysis that I shared with the online community of medical researchers, actively contributed to open-source projects and coding competitions as well as writing scripts for clinical data analysis and predictions.
Why, how and when did I get in bioinformatics and healthcare; at the end of 2019 my little sister got diagnosed with an aggressive thyroid cancer which affected me greatly. As I started reading articles about it nonstop, I found myself analysing medical data and programming data analysis pipelines to better understand the reasons of my sister's disease. It was a long process which culminated in an important interest for bioinformatics.
The skills I have acquired in my academic and work career are entirely transferable, which is why I find myself at ease developing algorithms for medical research and bioinformatics applications.
My long-term objective is to have a key role and actively contribute in cancer research.
