Full-Time Python Backend Developer Needed for VAPI project
Maddy is a decent developer, but I ended up having a lot of trouble with him, with continuous gaslighting. It started with things feeling slow (at some point he'd logged 3 full working days and all he reported doing during these days was reviewing code that took me two days to code). At this point I discovered that he'd accepted another full time offer on Upwork while saying he'd work full time on my project. When I confronted him, at first he said he hadn't, and the contract I'm referring to must be one of my contracts. When I pointed out to him I can see it on his profile he suddenly remembered, and said it was a project he wasn't going to work on yet.
After this I asked for him to start tracking time using the time tracker, which he agreed to. The following week was good, but then the fourth week we worked together I discovered that around 75% of tracked hours showed little to no activity, mostly consisting of 2-3 mouse inputs per 10 minute segment. At first he said it's because he's using multiple screens. Now he's changed to that he's using a laptop to work on while time tracking on his main computer. This despite the fact that he has previously used the time tracker on both these systems.
I want to be able to trust my freelancers and I hate to be micromanaging like this, and this is why we ended up cancelling the contract. Maddy would continuously change his story about why things weren't working as expected. It's a pity because I do believe he is a competent developer overall.
