I engineered an automated ETL pipeline that completely eliminates the
need to manually transcribe ASME Sec. VIII corrosion surveys. I wanted
to share the architecture of this solution, as it directly solves the
bottleneck of extracting tabular UT data from complex, unstructured
PDF reports.
Example:
Instead of relying on manual data entry, the pipeline uses a direct
text-extraction layer to read the raw document structure, followed by
multi-line regular expressions to programmatically isolate and parse
individual CML blocks from the unstructured text stream.
Automated Metrics Engine: It dynamically calculates "Service Life" and
"Calculated LTCR", while automatically mapping "UG45 Table Values"
based on the equipment's Outside Diameter.
Logic & Status Routing: The system programmatically evaluates the
current minimum thickness against Tmin and CA Thresholds. It uses this
logic to automatically assign risk statuses like "CRITICAL", "UG45
CRITICAL", or "CAUTION", removing the need for manual judgment calls.
Validated Export Generation: The final dataset is exported directly
into Excel.
