My relationship with Devruptors started out positive. Umer was thorough in the beginning, and Zain designed a beautiful, thoughtful UI for the app. The visual direction was strong, and I appreciated the care that went into the early design work.
Where things fell short was on the technical development side. I was told the company could complete the technical work beyond the app’s UI, but after the UI phase, the weekly meetings became increasingly unproductive. Instead of clear progress on the build, the conversations often shifted back to me as the founder, my marketing efforts, and whether the work I was doing on my end was real or valid. It created a dynamic where I felt I had to prove my own momentum before meaningful development work would move forward.
My deadlines were also not consistently respected unless I emphasized that other partners, programs, or stakeholders were expecting deliverables from me. Over time, there was a noticeable pattern of slow progress, limited accountability, and very little tangible movement on the actual app functionality.
Umer and Zain are kind people, and I do believe the UI work was strong. However, they were not transparent enough about where their technical expertise ended. That created real risk for my company, my funding obligations, and my reputation.
Although I was told the app was being actively developed, I later had 2 other developers review the work. Both independently found that the app was essentially a shell with the UI built out, but without the real code and functionality needed behind it.
For any founder considering Devruptors, I would recommend them for UI design only. Based on my experience, I would not recommend contracting them for full app development or backend coding unless there is very clear technical oversight in place from the beginning.
