Project details

I specialize in turning content into clear, engaging, and professionally structured eLearning experiences.

Whether you have a PDF, training document, or just an idea, I transform it into an interactive course that is easy to follow and built for real understanding, not just passive reading. My approach focuses on clean structure, logical flow, and meaningful interaction so learners stay engaged and actually retain the material.

I have a background in special education and instructional design, with a bachelor’s degree in Educational Studies and a master’s degree in Educational Technology and Instructional Design. This allows me to design learning that is not only visually clean, but also accessible, structured, and effective for a wide range of learners.

I design e-learning experiences that utilize scenario based training, knowledge checks, and structured modules that guide learners step-by-step. My work is especially strong in creating practical, real world learning experiences rather than overly text-heavy or static content.
If you’re looking for a course that is organized, engaging, and professionally built, I can help bring your content to life.

Parent of Teen Boy / US High School Teacher Needed to Check and Approve Teen Life Skills Book Maryellen was a joy to work with. She was able to go over my manuscript in detail and provide me with her editorial feedback on it. I was very impressed with her attention to detail, her knowledge of the subject matter and her willingness to do a comprehensive, highly professional and thorough job. With her recommendation, I was able to make an important improvement to my manuscript. I would wholeheartedly recommend her services to other clients. Thank you.

Teachers and school staff are often expected to implement IEPs and support students with disabilities after receiving training that is dense, jargon-heavy, and completely disconnected from what actually happens in a classroom. I build training that fixes that.

I'm a special educator turned instructional designer and that combination is rare. I don't just understand eLearning methodology. I understand IEPs, accommodation implementation, paraeducator supervision, behavior support, and what it actually looks like when a student with ADHD, autism, or a learning disability sits in a general education classroom and needs support that works. That lived expertise shapes every design decision I make.

I hold a Master of Education in Educational Technology and Instructional Design, a Bachelor’s in Special Education, and CAST UDL Credentialed, certified by the organization that created the Universal Design for Learning framework. My courses aren't UDL-inspired. They're UDL-designed, from the first learning objective to the last interaction.

What makes my work different from most instructional designers isn't the tools I use. It's that I design for learner variability from the very first decision, not as an afterthought, not as an accessibility checkbox, but as the foundational design principle that shapes everything. Barriers live in the design, not the learner. Every course I build reflects that.

My technical capabilities include:
Articulate Rise 360 with custom HTML/CSS/JavaScript interactions embedded directly in course blocks
Articulate Storyline 360 branching scenarios and complex simulations
Standalone HTML/CSS/JavaScript microcourses built from scratch and deployed independently without LMS dependency
Performance support tools and workflow aids for special education professionals
UDL-aligned curriculum design for K–12, higher education, and adult professional development contexts

Recent portfolio work includes:
A graduate capstone paraeducator professional development course featuring a custom Para Data Collection Simulation, a fully functional embedded form that replicates the actual job task of recording classroom observation data alongside a four-scenario Accommodation Implementation activity with nuanced professional judgment distractors, scaffolded hints, and immediate corrective feedback. This course was built to address a documented gap in paraeducator training quality and demonstrates transfer-focused design at a level most corporate eLearning never attempts.

A parent IEP advocacy course with seven interactive lessons including a guided branching scenario for parents navigating early intervention decisions, an accommodation vs. modification interactive sorting activity, a simulated IEP progress report critical analysis activity with a five-step guided annotation sequence, and a full sample IEP document review designed to build document literacy before a parent signs anything. Built by someone who has written real IEPs and sat in real IEP meetings.

A standalone HTML/CSS/JavaScript microcourse on IEP vs 504 plans built entirely from scratch without an authoring tool, deployed on Netlify as an independent web application. Demonstrates custom development capability for organizations that need learning experiences outside of traditional LMS infrastructure.

A paraeducator data collection performance support tool, a standalone web application built in HTML/CSS/JavaScript that embeds support directly into the workflow rather than requiring a separate training event.

I work with:
Special education nonprofits and parent advocacy organizations needing professional digital training content
School districts requiring paraeducator, teacher, and administrator professional development
Parent Training and Information Centers needing accessible, high-quality IEP literacy programs
EdTech companies building tools for the special education market
Any organization that needs learning experiences designed for real learner diversity, not theoretical averages

I am not a generalist instructional designer who occasionally works in special education. This is my field, my background, and my expertise. If you need someone who understands both the instructional design craft and the special education content at a depth that most designers simply don't have and whose portfolio proves it, let's talk!
