While I believe in using caching and optimization plugins, I believe they should be the final step in the process. Underlying issues and improvements should be addressed first, to get the best possible results.
When I optimize your site I will
- Conduct a frontend audit using tools like PageSpeed, DebugBear and GTMetrix to establish the current performance levels.
- Check for underlying issues and improvements that could be made
- Conduct a backend audit
- Create an optimization plan
- Work on your staging site first to avoid any disruption to your live site.
- If content changes would be advantageous, these will be discussed with you for approval or otherwise.
- Manual fixes will be applied first.
- Finally any needed optimization plugins will be used. This could include caching plugins (for example, WP Rocket or Litespeed), optimization plugins like PerfMatters, image optimizers like Imagify, database cleaners etc.
- If you already have optimization plugins installed that you want to continue using, I will work with those.
- I will make sure everything is compatible with your server cache and CDN if you use them.
- If needed, I’ll get Cloudflare or your CDN of choice activated for you.
- I’ll test the site with optimizations applied to make sure nothing is broken.
- After your confirmation, the changes and optimizations will be applied to the live site.
- I’ll provide a final report which explains everything that was done and provides before/after results, and recommendations for moving forward.
