During our initial engagement in 2024, Hasnain acted as the project manager while Haris was the primary developer, which only became clear after the collaboration had started. I initially assumed Hasnain would also be the developer. While this was unexpected, it was not an issue for us, as we operate as an agency ourselves.
At the beginning, we worked smoothly using a milestone-based approach. The scope of work was clearly defined, approved in advance, and delivered as agreed. The work focused on Bubble development, specifically improving and fixing our client portal, and everything went well throughout 2024.
However, toward the end of 2025, when we returned to make fixes and add a few features, the experience quickly became disappointing and unprofessional. Despite continuing with the same scoped, milestone-based process, Hasnain raised concerns after the scope and solution that were being discussed and stated that the time spent scoping was not adequately excessive, requested switching to an hourly rate, and mentioned that their estimates were not always accurate and that they were “losing money.” I found this feedback surprising and unprofessional.
In good faith, I paid the first milestone and even covered five hours instead of the originally estimated two to compensate for any unbilled time. When I asked about delivery, I was told that Haris was working on another client’s project and that there was no clear timeline for completing the work I had already paid for. Shortly after, the payment was refunded on Upwork by Hasnain, which was unexpected and concerning.
Hasnain performed well during our initial engagement.
