SaaS web app that uses GPT-3 to generate high quality content This team has a 100% job success score because, in my experience, when they can’t smooth things over with unhappy clients after taking their money, they stop responding and either find a way to get the project removed or leave it open. Look at the “In Progress” tab on their profile: many projects have been open for years, including some from 6 years ago. Believe me, these aren’t happy clients. And this is only one of their accounts. In my view, their true performance is closer to 10% than 100%.

I am sure they can handle basic work, but if your project is in any way complex or time-sensitive, don’t rely on them. I was told my project would take a maximum of 21 weeks. More than 3.5 years later, it is still unfinished. Your main leverage is withholding payment, so learn from my experience: do not pay in advance.

The salesperson deserves 100%. He worked to understand every requirement, brought an expert onto the call, and gave me confidence based on their claimed “similar and relevant projects and experience.” Unfortunately, once the project began, I was handed off to people who knew nothing about what had been agreed.

My experience:

1. I provided a document with every requirement in thorough detail so they could quote accurately. After starting, they still charged me for a “user stories” phase that rehashed my existing document, already broken down by user. Despite this, functionality was repeatedly recorded incorrectly or omitted. I would send corrections, be told they were done, then spend significant time reviewing only to find many changes had not been made or were wrong. Eventually, after a tremendous amount of my time and frustration, the user stories were finally correct. I paid and moved on.

2. The next phase involved functional/flow diagrams for each user and function. They felt sloppy and rushed and omitted much of the functionality already covered in my document and user stories. Once again, I spent substantial time re-explaining requirements we had already gone over repeatedly. Eventually the diagrams were corrected. I paid again, despite little substantive progress beyond repeatedly documenting the same requirements, because I wanted to keep things moving

3. The design phase was terrible, so I had my in-house team design all the templates and gave them those to use for the remaining pages. Again, much of the previously agreed functionality was missing from the pages, which was extremely frustrating. The same pattern repeated: I sent notes, was told changes were done, reviewed them, and found many had not been done or were done incorrectly. I complained, things improved briefly, then the same behaviour returned. Eventually the designs accurately reflected the functionality. I paid and moved to front-end development.

4. When the front-end programming work was eventually shown to me, they had changed many things from the approved designs for no apparent reason. After all the time spent perfecting the design phase, the developer just ignored it. I again spent a lot of time getting them to make it match. The same “done/not actually done” cycle repeated, including basic functionality such as what buttons should open and where links should go. Eventually the front end was correct. I paid and moved to backend development.

5. The backend developer again changed much of what we had spent so long completing in the previous phase and did not keep a backup. I still do not understand the purpose of all these paid phases if the next developer ignores or changes them. From there, the same cycle continued over a much longer period: promised corrections, changes said to be completed when they were not, and endless follow-ups. We never got there.

Missed deadlines were also common. I would be given a date for completion, weeks would pass with no apparent progress, the date would come and go, and nothing would be delivered. Eventually they stopped sending changes altogether. Every follow-up brought another promise, but the work never came. Finally, they stopped responding. My impression is that leaving the project open avoids having the outcome reflected in their score, which would also explain the many years-old “in progress” projects.

I am curious to see what they do now that I am leaving negative feedback, and how Upwork handles a dispute involving a team that generates significant fees for the platform.

My advice: do not pay in advance; withhold payment until each phase is 100% complete and verified to your satisfaction; keep every requirement, promise and approval in writing; and have a signed contract outside Upwork where appropriate. Fortunately, we have everything documented and a separate contract. Unless they make this right with a full refund after I close the project and request one, I intend to pursue recovery through court for the money already paid, the substantial time I personally spent correcting their work, and the major opportunity we missed because this project was never completed.

AI Workflow Specialist & Tutor Needed for Multi-Agent Chat Setup and LangChain Integration Irfan is a hard-working, engaging, and accessible freelancer who clearly wants the best for his clients. Our project began with an enthusiastic consultation where we explored ambitious AI-driven solutions. After our first few days, however, I realized I’d set unclear expectations about deliverables and budget. Irfan’s team dedicated substantial time (over $600 worth of work) without producing the smaller, incremental progress I initially hoped for. This was largely a misalignment on my part—I take full responsibility for not providing more precise, phased goals upfront.

I do believe Irfan and his team genuinely aim to deliver excellent results. For those considering working with him, I’d strongly recommend establishing concrete milestones and clear communication from the start so both parties know what to expect. Irfan has a passion for innovation, and with well-defined objectives, I’m confident he can create tremendous value. Thank you, Irfan, for the stimulating discussions and best wishes for your future projects.
