To demonstrate my process, I set up a WordPress site intentionally
configured the way many real client sites arrive — large uncompressed
images, no caching layer, an unoptimized database, and a generic shared
hosting setup. Starting PageSpeed score: 45/100.
WHAT I DID
1. Audit — Ran GTmetrix and PageSpeed Insights to identify the exact
bottlenecks: oversized images (3-5MB each), no browser caching, and
render-blocking JavaScript.
2. Fix — Compressed and resized all images, installed and configured
WP Rocket for caching, minified CSS/JS, and cleaned up the database
(removed old revisions, expired transients, and unused tables).
3. Verify — Re-ran the same tests. PageSpeed score improved from 45 to 92.
Load time dropped from 6.2s to 1.4s.
