Adding a second language late is harder than it looks, because the text is scattered through the code instead of sitting in one place.
I pull every visible string into translation files, add a language switcher, handle date and number formats per language, and make sure the layout survives text that is longer than the original - German runs about a third longer than English, and buttons break.
I have built multilingual apps and sites of my own, including one running in three languages.
I do not translate. I build the structure that makes translation possible, and I will tell you which strings a machine translation will get wrong.
