Every step inside a workflow counts separately, so a five-step automation running a thousand times a month costs you five thousand tasks. n8n counts a whole workflow run as one execution — and self-hosted, it is server cost only, typically $10–20/month regardless of volume.
At low volume that difference does not matter. At scale it is thousands of dollars a year.
I will tell you which one you are before you spend anything on a migration. The Starter tier is a paid audit that ends in a straight recommendation, and if your saving comes out under a couple of thousand a year, my recommendation will be to stay where you are.
If it is worth doing, I rebuild your workflows in n8n, run both systems in parallel until yours is proven, and only then do you cancel the old subscription. Nothing gets switched off on faith.

Three things I do most often:
- AI pipelines with predictable output. Language models return markdown fences, truncated JSON and confident nonsense. Every LLM step I build assumes that and handles it: fenced output stripped, outermost object extracted, parsing wrapped, bad responses dropped instead of crashing the run.
- Integrations where the vendor node doesn't exist. When there's no ready-made node I go straight to the API — headers, auth, pagination, rate limits, retry with backoff where retry actually helps and a different approach where it doesn't.
