Learning a language is, I believe, comparable to learning a new sport. Rather than watch and listen to someone else explaining the rules, the learner needs to actively take part. Flexing and building their own speaking "muscles" as they develop their ability and confidence in the new skill. Even as a complete beginner, I believe it's important to start using the target language straightaway. My aim is to make you feel comfortable speaking German, and to feel that you are able to apply it to real-life situations, right from the start.
I aim to present, and have you practise, the language in such a way that translation is not necessary. Of course in emergencies, I can give you a leg-up in English, but that would be the exception. The ideal way forward is getting you to stop translating in your head, and to really start thinking in German. It may be hard work at times (just like a sports training session can be), but I try to make it enjoyable, and hope to give you the satisfaction of being able to perform in your newly acquired language.
