Executive Virtual Assistant with Tech Background
I have to prematurely terminate Abu's contract. Before hiring Abu, he was very persistant in messaging me for work. I had some reservations about the significant time difference as well as that my budget was below Abu's rate, but he was very persistant and confident that he needs work so we decided to give it a go. I always try to give the public a good impression of the freelancer by first acknowledging their positive traits before pointing out their deficiencies. Abu's quality of work, performance and speed was really great. Very quick to learn and he finished tasks as expected.
However, the main issue I had with Abu was his unreliable attendance and inconsistent start times and communication. In the very first week of our contract which was for daily work 5 days a week, Abu missed and was absent 2.5 of those days citing he was ill. Although this is a very valid reason, what didn't help build the trust and foundation, was that he was very bad at communicating this to me. He went a full day without any notice of him being ill even though he mentioned the day before that he would definitely be ok to work. His complete silence was indeed frustrating.
He promised this will not happen again, and unfortunately today (Monday 6th May), he has not checked in to work, has not responded to my messages or call, so it is very unfortunate that I have to end his contract because I literally have no idea where he is nor a message of notice if his still ill or an emergency etc. I could understand if this was the first time this happened, but after multiple failed communications and absence, we cannot move our fast pace work with this much unreliability. We let him go long ago because we couldn't use any of his work, -others on our team had to redo it. He has constantly harassed not just our company, but he also had apparently violated our confidentiality and IP, and Upwork's confidentiality and IP requirements -As we learned he kept company documents and contacts. He contacted some of our customers and partners, he threatened them, and made baseless Libel (False, damaging statements) claims against us, which we are now pursuing him legally for.
