Between 2018 and 2022, I was an instructor at Iowa State Universityteaching and a faculty member at Florida State University. Between 2022 and 2023, I mentored five graduate students at Auburn University as a postdoctoral fellow. I have published five first-authored manuscripts in SSCI Q1 or Q2 journals and have been an ad-hoc reviewer for SSCI Q1 and Q2 journals (34 reviews). I was a reviewer for 8 grant proposals for the Society of Research in Child Development in 2024 and 20 proposals for the National Council on Family Relations Annual Conference between 2025 and 2026.
I have two consultation services on Upwork. The first service is a semi-structured meeting wherein we will focus on serious, academic issues. The second service is like my good old office hours provided to my undergraduate or graduate students at U.S. research-intensive universities. It is inevitable that historically minoritized students would encounter discrimination in the United States, so we could talk it over or collaboratively come up with workarounds.
I am the Founder of BC Academic Editing and Statistical Consultation, where I provide the following services: (a) Editing academic manuscripts in social sciences (e.g., psychology, family and developmental sciences): Please inquire about the price after you have a draft and a target journal. I provide different levels of editing fro line/deep editing to developmental editing. The payment rates, per 1,000 English words, are $200 for developmental editing, $150 for line/deep editing. Within 2 business days of accepting your request, I will let you know whether an upgrade of service is recommended to ensure that your manuscript will be competitive to be published in an SSCI journal. On accepting your request for a designated service, please allow me 5 business days to complete the assignment. If you elect to request either line/deep or developmental editing, I will provide a cover letter for the manuscript as a supplementary service.
Regarding the payment, for instance, if you want me to do developmental editing on your manuscript written in 10,000 words. you will need to pay me $2,000 via Upwork in advance. Alternatively, you could pay me $1,200 via Upwork in advance and the rest $800 after receiving my edited manuscript. The same logic applies to the other services. For developmental editing, we need to have two rounds of editing. You are required to carefully read my edits, comments, and questions, as well as provide me with the revision in a timely fashion so that I can do the second round of editing for you. Please allow 5 business days for each round of developmental editing.
(b) Translating academic manuscripts in social sciences: For translating written English into
traditional Chinese (Mandarin) or vice versa, the payment rate is $1,600 per 1,000 English or Mandarin words.
(c) Quality evaluation report: If you are uncertain about the competitiveness of your manuscript, you could request a service called "Quality Evaluation Report," where I will provide you with ratings (i.e., ranging from 1 to 5) on your manuscript's (1) novelty, (2) data sufficiency, (3) manuscript structure, (4) potential for publication in Social Science Citation Index (SSCI)-indexed journals, (5) writing quality, and (6) adequacy of figures and tables. You need to pay $80 (3 pages), $96 (4 pages), and $112 (5 pages) for this service.
(d) Consultation on research design, (advanced) quantitative modeling, and academic writing in social sciences (e.g., psychology): You should have had preliminary plans before consulting me. I will serve as a consultant instead of a ghostwriter. It is crucial for my clients to write their own manuscripts or projects, otherwise it would be academic misconduct that you would want to avoid. You will pay $120 (for 30 mins) or $240 (for 60 mins) for my consultation. It could be a meeting wherein we get to know one another before working on a long-term project wherein I could serve as your statistical consultant or academic or admission writing consultant. All works should be written in accordance to APA 7 unless requested otherwise by the journal or agency.
(e) Editing application materials (e.g., a statement of purpose, curriculum vitae) for U.S. graduate schools: To optimize your documents, please provide the requirements that the schools or programs post on their websites. I will comment on your manuscript as a "peer reviewer" that you would encounter during the review process. Depending on your needs, my comments could take up to 3.5 pages.
