Project details
Having been a founder and CEO myself in the past, I care deeply about how entrepreneurs spend their time raising funding.
Startup failure rates are already high without having the extra hassle of spending all that time finding investment when you could be running your business and building value.
In the past, I've spent weeks on well-designed business plans, hiring external consultants and having the pain of going through multiple iterations and I've come to the conclusion that it's all an expensive distraction unless you're really careful. I learned the hard way.
And then you have your existing stakeholders to answer to - all while trying to balance that with a personal life!
Now I sit on the other side of the table assessing hundreds of business plans and pitches and I know what works and what doesn't.
Pitching is messaging. Pitching is storytelling. Pitching is making every word count! Waste that opportunity and you'll lose an investor. And the worst thing is - you might never know. That's why you should treat the pitch as a journey - slowly capturing the investor's attention by serving up key nuggets of information at the right time - without serving up any fluff.

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the outstanding work that Trevor did on my investment memo. I was very impressed with his ability to quickly and accurately proofread the memo, identify any errors or inconsistencies, and make helpful suggestions for improvement.
His work was outstanding in every way. He was able to understand the complex financial concepts in the memo and make sure that the language was clear and concise. He also made a number of helpful suggestions for improving the structure and flow of the memo.
I was particularly impressed with his turnaround time. He was able to complete the work very quickly, even though I had a very tight deadline.
I highly recommend Trevor for any business proofreading or editing work.

ABOUT ME:
I specialise in editing and reviewing economics-, finance-, and investment-related documents for founders, investors, and senior decision-makers.
This includes investment memoranda, pitch decks, investor letters, prospectuses, valuation materials, financial reports, and long-form analytical or policy documents — where clarity, structure, and credibility matter as much as language.
My work is not cosmetic. It is about ensuring that documents stand up to real scrutiny from boards, investors, and committees.
BACKGROUND:
I am originally from Dublin, Ireland, and have over 25 years’ experience as a C-level executive, investor, and board member. I have raised several million dollars in venture financing and am very familiar with the investment and due-diligence process.
I am multilingual, have lived and worked in a dozen countries, and have led large international teams. I also serve as a judge at the annual Business Book Awards.
This background allows me to bring a decision-maker’s perspective to every document I review — not just that of an editor.
WHY CLIENTS HIRE ME:
Most clients come to me because they need more than proofreading.
With me, you get:
- Board-level scrutiny of financial and investment documents
- A deep understanding of how investors and committees read
- Tightening of arguments, structure, and logic — not just language
- Identification of credibility leaks, inconsistencies, and weak framing
Business leaders are overwhelmed with information. Documents must get to the point — fast. A poorly structured or inconsistent document is not just a writing issue; it reflects directly on the business itself.
NON-NATIVE ENGLISH EXPERTISE:
Having run international teams for many years, I regularly work with non-native English writers at a senior level.
This often goes beyond light editing and may involve substantial restructuring or rewriting. My goal is always the same: to ensure the document reads as if it were written by a native, senior professional, without losing the author’s intent or authority.
HOW I WORK:
I approach each document from the perspective of the end decision-maker.
My process typically includes:
- Structural and logical review of arguments
- Scrutiny of assumptions, clarity, and flow
- Attention to accuracy, consistency, and references
- Final polishing to ensure the document is professional and publication-ready
I have written, reviewed, and presented hundreds of management books, investment pitches, reports, white papers, academic papers, and board documents — and I have reviewed many of these myself as an investor.
Much of my work is confidential and investor-sensitive, which is why I cannot share most documents publicly.
SERVICES:
Proofreading (Native English)
Thorough review for grammar, punctuation, spelling, terminology, and consistency (numerals, formatting, capitalisation).
Copyediting (Native English)
Rigorous editing to improve clarity, sentence structure, flow, and precision. Removal of repetition and tightening of language.
Editing for Non-Native English Writers
In-depth editing or rewriting to ensure documents read as native-level professional English.
REPRESENTATIVE WORK:
- Investment memoranda
- Pitch decks and investor presentations
- Financial and valuation reports
- Investor letters and shareholder reports
- Board papers and management reviews
- Business plans and strategy documents
- Academic and policy reports
- White papers and long-form analysis
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- Advising founders on investor-facing communication
- Overhauling pitch decks to support fundraising
- Coaching and mentoring founders, entrepreneurs, and senior executives
- Sitting on boards and occasionally investing
I have helped 200+ entrepreneurs, academics, executives, and creatives turn complex drafts into clear, professional documents that achieve results. I am also an active Upwork client myself and have awarded over 140 projects, maintaining a 5-star client rating.
FINAL NOTE:
I am selective about the work I take on and prioritise projects where judgment, discretion, and experience matter. I believe my pricing represents strong value for the level of scrutiny and expertise provided.
