Amar was polite and initially very empathetic about our past bookkeeping issues, reassuring us that he understood our situation and that fees would remain reasonable. However, after about 4 weeks and $2,700 in billed hours, we had no actual reconciliation document or tangible deliverable. Essentially we paid for his learning about our company.
When I questioned the cost and paused the contract due to lack of output, he became upset that he could no longer bill more hours. His new estimate expanded to around 17 weeks of work, roughly quadrupling both the original timeframe and total cost. This felt misaligned with what a small, not very complex company should require.
My main concern is misalignment between hours billed and concrete results. I would not recommend him for open ended hourly work without strict scope control and defined deliverables.
