The freelancer ultimately delivered a usable formatted file and did make revisions when requested. However, the process required significantly more back-and-forth than expected for a project described as “experienced in all styles,” particularly fiction and romance paperbacks.
I provided detailed requirements upfront, including trim size, book type, page count, and pricing considerations. Despite this, basic fiction formatting elements (paragraph spacing, justification, headers, font sizing) required multiple rounds of clarification and step-by-step direction from me.
I appreciate that corrections were made, but I would have expected these standards to be applied without extensive guidance. Additionally, changing the font size to 12pt and suggesting pricing changes without consulting me was not appropriate, as those decisions were already established.
Overall, the work was completed, but authors who are particular about industry-standard fiction formatting may want to be very explicit from the start.
