Ornament Design for The Siren's Curse book cover case

Dahlia Soil & Fertility Series: Post-Production
Anna illustrated the complete botanical figure set for my seven-part research series on dahlia soil and fertility, twenty-three watercolor figures in all, and the work was outstanding from the first batch to the last.
Her botanical illustrations are accurate, expressive, and beautifully rendered. Just as important, she is exceptional at working from detailed written briefs. Each figure came with specific instructions covering composition, annotation text, labels, and layout, and Anna translated those instructions into finished art faithfully and with real care. That reliability kept a long, multi-part project running smoothly.
Over the course of the series the visual system became more demanding. We developed conventions for how different graphic elements should read, introduced new stylistic treatments, and in the final batch moved into more conceptual territory, including reworking and recombining existing artwork into new panel configurations. Anna adapted to every one of these refinements while keeping the whole series visually consistent, which is no small feat across this many figures produced over an extended period.
She handles revisions promptly and precisely, communicates clearly, and is simply a pleasure to collaborate with. I recommend her without reservation and look forward to working with her again.

1st milestone - redacting text, creating a cover -
When I finished writing The Writers Investigate, I believed the hardest part was over. I was wrong. A book is born twice: first in the writing, and then in the hands of the designer who gives it its visual life.
Anna Pastushenko made that second birth possible.
She did far more than design the book. She read the manuscript carefully, understood its tone and atmosphere, and helped transform it into a complete work. Together we explored numerous cover concepts, discussed every detail, and searched for the right visual language. Every suggestion she made had one purpose—to make the book stronger.
What I appreciated most was that Anna never imposed her own vision. She offered ideas, explained her reasoning, created alternatives, and patiently worked with me until we found the right solution. That requires not only professional skill, but also genuine respect for the author.
Throughout the entire process, I never felt that she was simply designing a book. I felt she was helping me create one.
Looking at the finished result today, I know the book would not have been the same without her talent, dedication, artistic sensitivity, and remarkable attention to detail.
My sincere thanks to Anna Pastushenko for her creativity, patience, and professionalism. I hope The Writers Investigate will be only the first of many books we create together.
