Project details

A doctor appointment system dashboard is being designed to help healthcare professionals manage patient appointments, medical records and doctor schedules. The UI/UX design will prioritise ease of use, integrating features such as appointment scheduling, patient profiles, and doctor availability tracking into the dashboard. An interactive prototype will be created and delivered using Figma, with mobile responsiveness for both desktop and mobile devices. The system will streamline workflows and improve patient management by enabling healthcare professionals to manage appointments and access patient data with ease. Real-time appointment tracking and data visualisation will enable professionals to efficiently manage patient details and appointments. This design will reduce scheduling errors and enhance the patient experience, enabling doctors and staff to prioritise patient care while automating administrative tasks. This healthcare management system will enhance operational efficiency overall.

I came into healthcare design after watching a family member struggle with a patient portal that had been redesigned three times and still required a phone call to do anything. That experience shapes how I work.

Healthcare and fitness products aren't like other software. The user is often anxious, sometimes in pain, sometimes a caregiver fielding crisis on someone else's behalf. The data they share is private in ways that matter. Designs that ignore this, and most do quietly fail people when they're most vulnerable.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗡

• Telemedicine and virtual care apps.
• Patient portals and engagement products.
• EHR and EMR-adjacent tools.
• Clinical workflow software for nurses, GPs, and allied health professionals.
• Mental health and therapy apps.
• Fitness trackers, workout apps, and habit-building products.
• Wellness coaching, nutrition, and meal planning apps.
• Women's health products. Senior care apps.
• HealthTech startups across primary care, specialty care, behavioral health, and chronic disease management.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗢 𝗜𝗧

A working understanding of HIPAA and how it shapes UX decisions — consent flows, audit trails, data minimization, PHI handling, secure messaging UX. I work with your compliance lead, not around them. Familiar with HL7 FHIR data structures and how they constrain UI design.

Accessibility as a baseline, not a phase 2 feature. WCAG 2.1 AA is the floor. Healthcare audiences include older adults, people with chronic conditions, and people in distress — accessible design isn't optional in this category.

A bias toward calm interfaces. Healthcare apps don't need confetti animations. They need clarity, predictability, and respect for the user's time.

𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗘 𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗙𝗢𝗖𝗨𝗦

Patient onboarding and intake: insurance verification, medical history capture, appointment booking, identity verification, and consent. The first 5 minutes determine whether the patient comes back.

𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴: pain scales, symptom journals, mood tracking, vitals logging, period tracking, sleep tracking. Designed to capture useful data without making the user feel like they're filing paperwork.

𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗨𝗫: pre-visit waiting rooms, video consultation interfaces, in-call clinical tools, post-visit summaries, prescription handling, and follow-up scheduling.

𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻-𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀: charting, e-prescribing, order entry, clinical decision support, and dashboards for doctors and care coordinators. UX that respects the 14-second average a clinician spends per chart.

𝗙𝗶𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀: onboarding without overwhelming, workout players that work mid-rep, progress visualization that motivates without shaming, and engagement loops grounded in behavioral design rather than dark patterns.

𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆: crisis-aware UX, therapist matching, journaling, mood tracking, asynchronous therapy interfaces. Special attention to safety, privacy, and the difference between data the user wants to remember and data they want to forget.

𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵: cycle tracking, fertility apps, pregnancy and postpartum products, menopause apps. A category most designers approach badly — I don't.

Senior care and accessibility-first design: large type, high contrast, simple navigation, voice-first patterns, and caregiver views.

𝗧𝗢𝗢𝗟𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗗𝗦

• Figma for design.
• ProtoPie when interactions need to feel alive.
• Maze and UserTesting for testing — though clinical user research often requires specialist recruiters and IRB-aware protocols, which I plan around.
• Familiar with FHIR data, EHR integration constraints, and Apple HealthKit / Google Fit / Fitbit APIs as design inputs.

𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗜'𝗠 𝗔 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗 𝗙𝗜𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥

Telemedicine and virtual care startups. HealthTech companies past MVP. Fitness and wellness app teams wanting design that doesn't feel like every other app in the category. Mental health platforms. Clinics digitizing patient experience. Insurance and benefits products. Companies building inside the constraints of HIPAA, GDPR healthcare data rules, or regional regulations.

𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗔 𝗙𝗜𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥

Medical device firmware UI requiring formal IEC 62304 documentation. Anything requiring FDA submission packages. "Wellness" products with predatory pricing or pseudoscience claims. Apps that gamify chronic illness in exploitative ways.

𝗚𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗘𝗗

If you're building something where users are trusting you with health data and you want a designer who takes that seriously, send me a quick description and a link to your product. I'll come back within a day with an honest read.
