It's well documented and if you don't already have experience it's well documented on your learning platform of choice. Custom themes are by far the best way to get the most out of the platform. When you build a custom theme you get:

Despite WordPress's popularity, it isn't for everyone. Many people reach to WordPress to be able to easily edit content but realistically many people don't want to have to edit their sites themselves or would just rather leave editing their sites to professionals like me. A static website is perfect for a business that just needs to get info on the web. Think of it as an interactive, digital brochure. The best part about a static site is that since there is no much to change or edit, it's more secure and much less susceptible to online attacks than WordPress. A static site is also incredibly fast, usually scoring in the 98th percentile of Google lighthouse tests. On top of these technical benefits, hosting a static site is very inexpensive.
I am a self-taught designer and developer but I have worked with various agencies and had success with my own practice. I worked for the Ad-Agency Drake Cooper, the WordPress development shop Wonderbuild, I started the ridesharing app ShareLift for skiers, and my own practice here in Montana has been highly influential in the last few years. I am looking for work on Upwork so I can have a little more flexibility in my location.
