Ongoing Wordpress and/or Google Backend Work
Our business got very lucky when a friend recommended Devender on Upwork. I am hesitant to say how good he is because you might not believe me! But I really think he can probably do any Wordpress or server work (including PHP and JavaScript) that a small business could need, better than most people you will find.
He's not just good at doing the work, his writing skills are very good, too. This is a highly underrated skill. His messages are very clear, and he explains things very well and answers questions in a very helpful manner. This approach solves a ton of potential issues.
I've had Devender do so many projects for us that it's difficult to give him enough credit. We have launched, maintained, and highly-customized 12+ websites over the course of the past year. Importantly, for more extensive projects, he is not overwhelmed by in-depth instructions. If I under-communicate, he'll ask excellent questions in areas of assignments I've either not explained or didn't consider.
And even though he's (much) smarter than me, he never talks down to me if I've done or asked something foolish.
Devender is very efficient, and yet he doesn't skip steps that can create problems.
Also, if and when project priorities need to be re-arranged quickly (as so often happens), he has the dexterity to adapt on the fly, without getting frustrated.
And though he's essentially a contractor, rather than a full-time employee, he's still very communicative about periods when he'll be unavailable so that we can schedule accordingly.
Perhaps there's only one caveat on hiring Devender - I personally didn't ask him to do any web design or graphics. I think that's a different skill set, and there are plenty of others who can do that well. I didn't want to waste his time with design, because he has a special set of skills that are rare, and I wanted to keep him focused on those types of tasks as much as possible.
