Developing to Administer Temporary Secure Bike Parking
Baber and the Square63 team built a simple web based software product that enables people who cycle to events to leave their bikes in our care. The software works well and seems to be a reliable replacement for the software we used to use. A 3rd party evaluation of the code confirmed it was well written and followed best practices for structure and exchanging data between tables. The software has been in full use since February and we have experienced no issues.
However working with the team was a challenge. The project took months longer that forecast largely because the team provided no business analyst to define the SOW. Once underway there seemed to be little attention given to ensuring the UI/UX worked as intended. It appeared the approach was to rely on trial and error. That meant getting a useable product required me to perform the QA function. Furthermore, there appeared to be no expertise available to integrate the software to a critical third party provided texting service - requiring me to invest time & money in a trial and effort to stumble into getting the software to use the texting service API reliably. Another similar integration to incorporate WhatsApp was abandoned. Largely because it would have required me to determine how to facilitate use of the Meta API. In effect it appeared that there was no body of experience within Square63 beyond coding to draw upon.
So, in summary - if you have a well defined SOW and the resources to QA the code and the UI/UX. And have no need to integrate the application with another vendor's service then Square63 team will perform the work well. However, if you are not supplementing an existing development team, be prepared to do a lot of AI research to provide the guidance required to get the application you want.
