Client Self-Service Booking System Development
In our 10 years of business this has been the most damaging vendor engagement we have ever experienced, both financially and operationally. Kole abandoned our project midway, kept our prepayment of $7,350, and left us with absolutely nothing working. We are now pursuing this through both Upwork and legal channels.
When starting this project, Kole presented an impressive demo that won the contract. A prepayment of $7,350 was requested on the first day before any work had been started or reviewed. From that point everything went downhill. Although we hired Kole, all work was handled by his father Sean, operating under the name BrandGears, without any disclosure of this arrangement. Kole was hardly involved throughout the entire engagement.
Despite providing thorough project requirements, documentation, demos, and examples over nearly three months, not a single working flow or functional component was ever delivered. After three months Sean finally admitted that the system was not working and the entire portal needed to be deleted and rebuilt from scratch. To our complete surprise, just two days after this admission Kole and Sean abandoned the project entirely, leaving us with nothing, and refused to refund the prepayment.
This has caused serious financial loss and a major operational setback for our business. Upwork has informed that due to the prepayment they are unable to assist with recovery anymore as the prepayment had already been released. Upwork reached out to the freelancer directly but received no response. We are now pursuing legal action and Upwork has confirmed they will cooperate with any formal legal requests.
This has cost us $7,350 and significant lost time. We hope that by sharing our experience we can help other clients avoid the same outcome. We are happy to share further details and evidence with anyone who would like to know more before making a hiring decision.
