Frontend Engineer Needed to Build Advanced UI for AI-Driven Trading Platform (Tailwind, React)
I hired Iqbal with a clear responsibility: replicate Figma designs into pixel-perfect screens for a web app. From the very start, during the interview and in multiple conversations, I emphasized that pixel perfection was absolutely non-negotiable, and that if compensation, feasibility, or skill level were ever an issue, he needed to raise it before work began. He confirmed multiple times that he was confident in delivering at this standard.
Unfortunately, his execution did not align with those commitments. Instead of pixel-perfect replication, I consistently received incomplete and inaccurate screens. In several cases, he ignored or overrode already completed components, breaking stable areas of the app that had to be redone. Shortcuts were used repeatedly, and the output did not reflect the professional precision required for this project.
Each week, we discussed expectations and deadlines in standups. I always asked for transparency — if something wasn’t realistic, he could say so — but he continued to agree that everything was possible, only to hand over half-finished work at deadlines. The rate, deadlines, and scope were agreed upon upfront and never changed. While he later mentioned spending extra hours, those hours were not logged, and therefore outside the agreement. The issue was not time or communication, but the actual quality of execution.
On the positive side, Iqbal was reliable in terms of attendance and availability. He showed up to standups, and communication itself was never the problem. However, communication without follow-through doesn’t solve the underlying issue of work quality.
This is the first negative review I’ve left, but it’s warranted. Iqbal needs to sharpen his frontend skills significantly before taking on pixel-perfect UI replication work. With improvement in technical accuracy and attention to detail, he could become a more reliable contributor, but at this stage the gap between expectations and delivery was too wide to ignore.
