Google Sheets Expert - Build Charts in Google Slides (Hiring 3 People)
I hired Eden to build 25+ Google Charts for a reporting project. Before hiring, I sent him a clear requirements document and confirmed expectations both in writing and on a call. The work was due in three days. Three days after the start, Eden messaged that he was confused about the project and wanted to discuss it. I initially tried to cancel due to time constraints, but he asked to continue and offered to finish for a reduced fee.
On our call, I requested that he work on the monthly template instead of the quarterly template. I interpreted this as a minor change since it appeared no work had started, but Eden later counted this as a change in scope. I also clarified that the template would need additional employee slides to cover ten employees rather than five. Technically, this meant duplicating certain slides and increased the number of charts substantially, but he confirmed on the call that this was fine and agreed to the change.
Over the next several days, I sent further clarifications and sample formulas to help him build the charts as outlined. Eden felt these clarifications were changing the requirements, but aside from the template switch and the additional employee slides, which he agreed to, I was simply helping him understand the existing requirements.
A core issue was chart automation. The expectation, as stated in the requirements, was that the charts should update automatically based on a value in a single cell on another sheet. Eden said this was not possible and insisted I would need to manually enter the value on his chart sheet for updates. I explained that other freelancers had accomplished this setup without code. Communication became strained and the project was overdue for my client. I ultimately agreed to pay Eden a partial amount for his efforts and closed the contract.
In summary, Eden has technical skills, but there was fundamental misalignment on project scope and expectations. He should have spent more time reviewing the requirements before accepting the job. While I did make two changes to the original scope, both were discussed and accepted by Eden. The rest of my input was clarification, not new requirements. The process ended in frustration and I cannot recommend Eden based on this experience.
