As you can see, when the device is generating text it is maximizing GPU utilization. My GPU is capable of generating text as fast as I can read it. A newer Mac would be even faster! And so would be a modern Nvidia GPU.

I'm an engineer, a student of math and physics. I am highly specialized in frequency stabilization of semiconductor lasers with over twenty years of experience at designing, building and debugging complex software systems.

First I worked on embedded software to control the laser. And there was the project that used support vector machines for linear regression. But then came the flash of insight. Support vectors can do much more than simulate linear algebra. For example they are quite suitable to do classification as well.

Alas I had become a legitimate machine learning (ML) engineer. My practice resulted in expert knowledge about building and deploying ML technologies. With a background in C++ I have unique capabilities with respect to optimization and debugging of these sophisticated software systems.

My current project is focused on building a portable system to fine-tune large language models (LLMs) for text generation inference. The first step is to get the pertinent ML algorithms running on the GPU (so this should work with both CUDA and Metal devices). Then we plan to do an Apple only release where the ML algorithms will run on Apple's neural engine instead of, and/or in addition to Metal.

I can make a valuable contribution to your project because I am a competent systems engineer. The fact that I am highly specialized means that I can leverage the work of others in unique ways. Whether that means I am harnessing the power of existing open source software or directing a cross-disciplinary team to create something new, I apply the same basic principles to ensure success. Such principles are built upon a methodical approach, the foundation of all good engineering.
