About Kate

Genealogist
Baltimore, United States - 9:54 am local time
Thanks so much for looking at my profile! A quick introduction: I have a BA in history, a certificate in genealogy, and nearly a decade's worth of experience as a family researcher. I am a member of the International Organization of Professional Genealogists, The Maryland Genealogical Society, The Maryland Center for History and Culture, and the National Genealogical Society. I am also a registered nurse.

My passion is using DNA match analysis to uncover ancestors that cannot be found via traditional methods of research. This technique, for example, is ideal for clients who are searching for an enslaved ancestor of whom no written records exist.

Other areas of interest include:

-Wills and Deeds of Kent County, DE.
-B&O Railroad history, railroad strikes, and the employees and families that lived and worked on the line, from Baltimore’s Pigtown to Martinsburg, West Virginia.
-The history of Hants County, Nova Scotia.
-The Polish and German overland migration to the Atlantic ocean and subsequent journey to the US.
-The African diaspora and family research of the descendants of slaves from the Delmarva area.
-Family history of the Korean Peninsula.
-Building reverse family trees based on relationships found by DNA match analysis to find living, contemporaneous family members such as birth parents. I work closely with a private investigator on adoption cases.

This may sound unusual, but through the course of my research, I continuously try to disprove my own findings. I have greater success when I am reluctant to reach concrete conclusions. I rarely assume that a discovery is absolute until after multiple sources have been found and verified. With this method, along with perseverance, I have resolved many of my client's family mysteries.

Communication and trust is something that I strive for in a client/researcher relationship. Family discoveries are exhilarating and provide one with a feeling of connection to the past. These discoveries may be joyful or deeply troubling. Establishing a safe space that exists between researcher and client is key.
