I am happy to review outlines, complete projects or excerpts and individual chapters. I can also comparison titles/authors after reading your project, upon request (add on).

I am comfortable working with almost any fiction project, and most non-fiction, depending on the topic. I consider myself particularly well-read in the following genres:
 • Romance/Romantasy (including LGBT+)
 • Fantasy
 • Sci-Fi
 • Young Adult
 • New Adult
 • Middle Grade
 • Mystery
 • Thriller and/or procedural

For non-fiction, I am most comfortable in the following genres/sub-genres:
 • Memoirs, particularly those with a comic bend
 • Popular science- I have the most depth in food science. I also have a firm grasp on biology and chemistry.
 • Housing and homelessness
 • Law and society
I can NOT review projects that include excessive or graphic gore, such as in splatterpunk or extreme horror works. I have respect for authors that work in these niches, but respectfully, I'm just not the audience for it.

Hello!

I am an alpha/beta/sensitivity reader seeing new projects for review. I hope to assist both rookie and veteran writers improve their projects as best I can.

I offer general beta reading, as well as sensitivity/authenticity reading for the following sensitivities/subgroups:
- LGBTQIA+
-ADHD/autism/depression
- Zellenial: I remember a time before smartphones, but I also I know what a gyatt is and what it truly means to mogg. I can help you create characters that are more authentic for your target audience.
- Portrayal of addiction and rehabilitation
- Portrayal of modern poverty
- Raised in the Deep South: Virginia and Alabama is not the same. I can help provide perspective on what the area and people from the area are like to non-natives. As Faulkner said, To understand the world, you must first understand a place like Mississippi.
- Death of a parent/close relative: Our literary landscape is full of orphans and half-orphans. I can help you write a believable orphan, or half-orphan. This may sound silly, but trust me, plenty of orphaned characters/narratives would be well served by a sensitivity read.

I am not an expert in every aspect of the law but I also offer critiques from the perspective of someone who has a thorough legal education.
Just to be clear, I am NOT in any way offering legal advice or practical legal service, only critique. I no longer practice law. I'm not into that type of self torture.

What is included:
I will provide thoughtful and thorough in-line feedback as well as a reader report for your project. I will also review for basic grammar, flow, word choice, and sentence structure, unless I am directed not to do so. If I see something that seems like it could use technical improvement, I will bring it up and suggest corrections.

I am happy to review outlines, complete projects or excerpts and individual chapters. I can also comparison titles/authors after reading your project, upon request.

I am comfortable working with almost any fiction project, and most non-fiction, depending on the topic. I consider myself particularly well-read in the following genres:
- Romance, both LGBT+ and heterosexual romance. Note: I read, review, and often enjoy dark romance; however, please inform me what I'm getting into first.
- Fantasy
- Romantasy
- Sci-Fi
- Young Adult
- New Adult
- Middle Grade
- Mystery
- Thriller and/or procedural

For non-fiction, I am most comfortable in the following genres/sub-genres:
- Memoirs, particularly those with a comic bend
- Popular science- I have the most depth in food science. I also have a firm grasp on biology and chemistry.
- 'Food books'- such as books about food, food from a sociological or historical perspective, 'chef books', etc.
-Transportation
- Housing and homelessness
- Law and society

I can NOT review projects that include excessive or graphic gore, such as in splatterpunk or extreme horror works. I have respect for authors that work in these niches, but respectfully, I'm just not the audience for it. Therefore, a critique of from me would have no value.

My promises to you:
You will receive real human reader feedback. I will NEVER expose your work to generative AI models, (Chat GPT, Mistrial, Claude, ect.) or use generative AI to generate any of my work product.
I will take you and your work seriously, and give earnest feedback.
I will approach your project with an open mind.

My background:
I grew up in the rural deep south. The first thing I remember about reading is that I couldn't do it. I was not interested in learning to read until one of my classmates informed me that girls weren't smart enough to read big chapter books. I learned to read, and to read very well, primarily to spite that classmate. I've been a voracious reader and writer ever since.

I went to college close to my hometown. I earned a bachelors in Public/Mass Communication from a small southern liberal arts college. I wanted to do something important and make a difference in the world, so I decided to go to law school, as one does when they're young and dumb. I received a law degree from a large public institution in the Midwest. I stayed in the Midwest because myself and my wife enjoy casserole.

Being a lawyer was no fun. I only lasted about two years before I quit. Regardless of where I go, I always come back to reading and writing to find purpose. So, here I am. I hope I can provide thorough, valuable feedback to other aspiring authors!

Best,
Brooke
