Job Success

My services range from light proofreading of academic papers, research reports and business documents to detailed developmental editing of entire theses and book-length manuscripts. No assignment is too small or too large. Whether you need assistance with an essay, a grant proposal, or a business report, my role is to elevate your work to a higher level. With a sharp sense of grammar, syntax and style, and a keen ability to cross genres and resonate with varied audiences, I can ensure that your text is not only technically flawless but delivers its message with finesse and impact.
MY BACKGROUND
A former university Professor, I have been commissioned to write reports in a variety of fields by more than 30 universities across the globe. I have also worked extensively in project evaluation and reporting for both donor organisations and grant recipients on subjects ranging from Nursing, Public Health, and Human Rights through to Libraries and Equity programmes. My commissioned grant proposals have raised literally hundreds of millions of US$ for universities and NGOs in Africa.
With a Bachelor’s degree in English and a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge, I have written for academic and non-academic audiences alike. My publications include an award-winning book on childhood in South Africa and a co-edited volume on fundraising in the human rights sector. I have authored numerous journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, invited presentations and contracted research reports. I was the founding researcher of the Annual Survey of Philanthropy in Higher Education (ASPIHE) in South Africa and authored the annual publication of these findings between 2013 and 2018.
During my years in academia I supervised the writing of many theses at Honours and Masters levels, examined PhD theses, and graded and critiqued literally thousands of student papers and assignments. As the lead on several multi-disciplinary research projects, I also edited countless report drafts and papers produced by my junior researchers.
Having travelled for much of my working life, I now prefer to provide home-based academic proofreading, grant-writing and editorial support services. I particularly relish applying my expertise to subject areas which are new and challenging to me.

MY GUARANTEE
My reputation for excellence has been recognised in all the sectors in which I have worked. I have been in this game too long to compromise now. You can be assured that I will apply the same rigorous standards to your document as I have always applied to my own. For me, my work – and by extension yours – is a matter of pride. In the unlikely event that you are unsatisfied with my outputs, I will not charge you – it’s that simple!
EDITING RATES
As I enjoy what I do, my rates are competitive and my working hours are flexible. My preference is to establish a clear project brief and timeline at the outset. Provided it has been agreed upfront, I will never miss a deadline.
Editing rates start at $7.00 per 1,000 words for students, $10,00 per 1,000 words for charities and non-profit organisations, and $12.00 per 1,000 words for professionals and businesses.
GRANT WRITING AND OTHER DEVELOPMENTAL WORK
Rates for grant writing and other larger jobs start at $90 per day. Typically, I will review your brief, agree a work-plan, and provide a quote for the work based on the daily rate. Kindly contact me to discuss copyediting and developmental input on grant applications, dissertations, theses, book manuscripts, professional reports, and other longer documents. Together we will devise a customised brief and a set fee for the job. Please drop me a line about your needs and I will do my best to accommodate you. I look forward to hearing from you!
