I was ultimately disappointed with the overall experience, particularly given the scale of investment (over £20,000).
Vishal was able to deliver a basic marketplace product, and there were elements of the build that worked as expected. However, for a project of this size and complexity, I needed a developer who could think proactively, communicate clearly on finer details, and take full ownership of execution — and unfortunately this is where the experience fell short.
One of the main challenges was communication. While Vishal speaks good English, there were repeated instances where key requirements were misunderstood, leading to features being built incorrectly. For example, a wallet system was implemented in a way that only applied to the first transaction, with subsequent transactions bypassing it entirely — making the feature largely ineffective. This type of misalignment happened more than once and led to unnecessary rework and frustration.
There were also concerns around timelines and technical guidance. I was advised that a Shopify integration would take approximately 3 weeks for approval, but over 4 months later it was still unresolved. While delays can happen, this significantly exceeded expectations, and the reasoning provided did not fully align with feedback I later received from other experienced developers.
On launch day, the platform experienced widespread 404 errors, impacting a large number of users. This was a critical moment for the business, and unfortunately it affected trust in the product from the outset. Additionally, there were recurring issues with core functionality, such as users being unable to withdraw funds from the wallet — a fundamental requirement for a marketplace.
Overall, I felt that the scope and complexity of the project may have been beyond what Vishal could reliably deliver, despite taking on additional features throughout the process. The end result is a platform that functions at a basic level but still has several unresolved issues, which is not what I expected at this level of investment.
I made the decision to end the contract and not continue with the proposed maintenance work.
In summary, Vishal may be suitable for simpler marketplace builds, but for more advanced, bespoke projects requiring precision, scalability, and strong technical ownership, I would recommend considering other options.
