I became fascinated with computers from an early age. Because of this, I also learned a lot of English because all the instruction manuals were in English! At age 13 I started breaking down the software other people had made, and from then and on I experimented a lot and basically taught myself the mind of computers. In regards to languages, I understand quite a few of the European languages pretty well these days and have combined my flair for computers and making software with my interest in languages. I am for the most autodidact and independent. I can, for the most, handle complex projects alone, but I also follow instructions and can work together with other people. I am autodidact in Basic, Turbo Pascal, Delphi. I am familiar with SQL, PHP, HTML, etc.. As for my computer skills, I have myself developed some of the world's fastest routines for managing vast amounts of data... I don't think I should go into the subject of all the software I have used and can use on a professional level (you would be stuck here reading for a very long time). I am in addition basically bilingual. Native in English or Norwegian? I say Yes to both. :) Maybe this can be put to work for you. I really enjoy working with different languages.. Translating and transcribing is not only fun, I still come across a few words that I don't know, and that is the fun part of researching and learning.. I can translate these languages in a professional manner: English, Danish and Swedish ---> Norwegian Norwegian, Danish and Swedish ---> English Norwegian, English and Swedish ---> Danish For short texts, I also offer translation like: Norwegian, Danish and English ---> Swedish. German ---> Norwegian, Danish, English and Swedish. I can offer transcriptions of Norwegian, English and Swedish audio files. Phew. That was a lot about language... Where did it all start you might wonder... Well.. It helps being told that you can not do it. (Don't listen to that you parents out there. Acknowledge the values of your children. Encourage them!) Apart from that, it does help to be stubborn! and travel around a bit is not bad either. Being a software developer is what I really want for my future. Challenges will come my way and I will do whatever I can to meet those challenges in a professional manner. Many old programmers or those taught a language at school see problems and a box they are stuck in. In school, I was the one teaching my teachers. I was the one thinking outside the box to get things done. I can be stubborn sometimes, but in my mind, nothing is impossible. The impossible only takes a little bit longer time. I wish to put my skills into good use and I hope that will be something for you.

I am a multilingual translator specializing in translations from several European languages into English. My main source languages are German and Dutch. My service has been repeatedly used by TranslationPal, LLC (German, Dutch, etc.), Transferendi B.V. (Dutch, Indonesian) and Desindo Translation Service (Indonesian, Dutch, French, Italian). A more exhaustive list of my source-target language pairs: Indonesian to English, English to Indonesian, Latin to English, English to Latin, Ancient Greek to English German to English, Dutch to English, Danish to English, Norwegian to English Icelandic to English and Italian to English. I have been a prolific language learner from an early age, 12 years old to be exact. My learning has benefited from self-directed study of linguistics which enables me to systematically and analytically dissect various languages so as to have an easier time discerning them. I am a proficient user of SmartCAT; which is a professional computer-assisted translation software (not automatic translators like Google Translate). Professional translators use CAT apps mainly to boost efficiency and keep terminological consistency, not to replace the translator's expertise and intellectual effort. However, my default service is manual translation on Microsoft Word since that is what many clients are more comfortable with. I also have a membership at Proz.com, a website dedicated for professional translators worldwide. Although my passion is in linguistics, my actual professional academic domain is Petroleum Engineering with a focus on Geothermal Reservoir engineering.

How to Hire Top Norwegian Translators

How to hire Norwegian translators

Norwegian is one of the official languages of Norway, a Nordic country in Northern Europe located on the Scandinavian Peninsula. The language is also spoken in other regions, particularly in Sweden and Denmark, with notable populations of Norwegian speakers in Spain, the U.S., and Canada.

If you’re looking for a professional who can help you localize your business for Norwegian-speaking communities, a translator can help.

So how do you hire Norwegian translators? Here are some tips for finding top Norwegian translators on Upwork.

How to shortlist Norwegian translation specialists

As you’re browsing available Norwegian translation consultants, it can be helpful to develop a shortlist of the contractors you may want to interview. You can screen profiles using criteria such as:

  • Industry fit. You want a translator who can not only translate Norwegian but also understands how to translate industry-specific lingo between languages.
  • Communication. A translator needs strong written and verbal communication skills to ensure your message remains intact post-translation.
  • Feedback. Check reviews from past clients for glowing testimonials or red flags that can tell you what it’s like to work with a particular Norwegian contractor.

How to write an effective Norwegian translation job post

With a clear picture of your ideal Norwegian translation professional in mind, it’s time to write that job post. Although you don’t need a full job description as you would when hiring an employee, aim to provide enough detail for a consultant to know if they’re the right fit for the project.

An effective Norwegian translation job post should include:

  • Scope of work: From real-time Norwegian-to-English translation to audio transcription, list all the deliverables you’ll need.
  • Project length: Your job post should indicate whether this is a smaller or larger project.
  • Background: If you prefer specific experience performing certain translation services, such as translating technical documents and user manuals, mention this here.
  • Budget: Set a budget and note your preference for hourly rates vs. fixed-price contracts.

Ready to bridge the communication gap between your business and Norwegian-speaking communities? Log in and post your Norwegian translation job on Upwork today.

NORWEGIAN TRANSLATORS FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Norwegian?

Norwegian is a North Germanic language that’s closely related to Danish and Swedish, with varying degrees of mutual intelligibility across dialects. It descends directly from Old Norse, the common language spoken in Scandinavia during the Viking Era.

Here’s a quick overview of the skills you should look for in Norwegian translators:

  • Norwegian-to-English and/or English-to-Norwegian translation
  • CAT (computer-assisted translation) tools such as Trados or MultiTrans
  • Audio transcription (e.g., subtitles)
  • Writing and grammar (English and Norwegian)
  • Specialist, technical, commercial, or industrial knowledge
  • Strong understanding of how style, tone, and other cultural elements should be transferred between English and Norwegian

Why hire Norwegian translators?

The trick to finding top Norwegian translators is to identify your needs. Is your goal to translate email templates for an automated email marketing campaign from English to Norwegian? Or do you need help taking Norwegian transcripts and translating them for English readers? The cost of your project will depend largely on your scope of work and the specific skills needed to bring your project to life.

How much does it cost to hire a Norwegian translation specialist?

Rates can vary due to many factors, including expertise and experience, location, and market conditions.

  • An experienced Norwegian translator may command higher fees but also work faster, have more-specialized areas of expertise, and deliver higher-quality work.
  • A contractor who is still in the process of building a client base may price their Norwegian translation services more competitively.

Which one is right for you will depend on the specifics of your project.
