I am very passionate about patient advocacy in medicine, as well as patient rights in healthcare. At the age of 16, I was injured by a botched spinal injection, resulting in a painful, incurable and degenerative neurological/autoimmune condition. After 25 years of endless untreated pain, different doctors and hospitals, I have become somewhat of an expert. I’ve learned how to feel out doctors, and then quickly decide the best course of action, in various different situations. I’m my experience, this noticeably improved patient outcome. I had always dreamed of being a doctor myself, so when that dream was later so prematurely and unfairly taken away, I decided to continue my great interest in medicine on my own. This has consisted of much educational reading (including countless medial journals), learning a good amount of medical terminology as well as human anatomy, and a plan to take both a patient advocacy course, and medical terminology course come next year. After living through what I did, and having to deal with the overwhelmingly horrific way that I’ve been treated by medical professionals over the last quarter century since, I feel very passionate when it comes to medical and patient advocacy, and would love to help your loved one as they embark on this heartbreaking journey.
