The characteristics of a good case study include:
  • Ability to tell a story. A good case study includes a beginning, a middle, and an end, with the end resolving the challenge stated at the beginning.
  • Resolution of an issue. As mentioned above, a good case study will always resolve an issue, providing information to the reader who might identify with a similar scenario.
  • Focus on the customer. While the producer of the case study has a central role in the story, the primary purpose is to illustrate how challenges are resolved for the customer.
  • Focus on the facts. While a good case study should revolve around a compelling story, it should also include relevant facts that add credibility to the story.
  • Compelling call to action. If done properly, the natural progression of highlighting a challenge and unveiling a solution should lead to an obvious call to action where the reader is encouraged to contact the organization producing the case study.
