A story about making websites properly.
If you think a pretty website is an excellent one, then you might change your mind. There is a lot more to it than aesthetics.
Enough of introduction. Let the story roll...
It was a hot summer's day and a hard working man named Joe decided to have a nice cold beer after a long day's work.
He passed by the first bar without even noticing it. It had no signs telling it was a bar!
-In the world of websites, it means that there were no ads or organic SEO results.
A couple of minutes later he notices a cool neon sign saying "we serve tap beer." Nice, he thinks, so Joe enters the bar and orders a pint of a cold tap beer. On his surprise the bartender says:"we have only beers in bottles." Joe leaves the bar frustrated and tries to find another one.
:::: False or outdated marketing.Keep your ads about the content accurate.
So the very thirsty Joe enters another bar and tries to order a pint of a cold tap beer. It took water 2 minutes to take an order and a lot more to serve it. Joe had no patience to see his beer served. He left the bar.
:::: The website has to be fast. There are professional tools and benchmarks to achieve this. You will lose perspective customers if you make them wait for too long.
O.K. there is a nice looking bar serving cold tap beer. Joe orders beer, but the bartender doesn't seem like pouring beer int the glass. The order doesn't reach him. Even though he said: "Thank you for your order."
::::If you have a contact or order form online, make sure it is working properly. Even more important, make sure it is spam free. It will clutter your inbox with penis enlargement ads.
Damn, he just wanted a glass of beer :(
In the next bar Joe orders a beer and it is coming to him.everything looks nice this time, but wait, there is a bunch of hooligans coming into the bar smashing everything on their way. No beer for Joe in this bar.
:::: Keep your site secure. There are certain procedures and professional tools to repeal 99% of the hackers with just a few security setup checklists.
Then, Joe remembered how the guys at the work talked about a new bar in the neighborhood so decides to try over there. Surprise, surprise, the new owner forgot where his new bar was. He didn't know the address. Are you kidding me?
:::: Backup! You have to have a backup. If something goes wrong, you will know where are your files located and just restore them with a single mouse click. Scheduled and manual backups are a must have.
Here we go again. Bummers, this time Joe can't even go through the doors, it's too small for him. Well, at least he didn't waste too much of his time on this lousy bar.
:::: Be mobile friendly. Devices come to all shapes and sizes these days, and you have to think about it.
I will check your website on more than 100 screen sizes using browserstack.com tools
When everything seemed like a lost cause, Joe decides to pay a visit to his old, well-known bar. It has a worn out sign outside. The bartender is somewhat unpleasant, and the make of beer is not Joe's favorite, but he will get a glass of a cold tap beer.
:::: You are better off with your old, proven site if you will not make sure everything is done professionally with your new one.
Advice to the owner of a bar that Joe eventually did drink his beer:
"You should analyze your business and gather relevant data. That way you will know what needs to be done so you would sell a lot more beer than you do now.
Maybe serve some free peanuts or have a large TV with a football game on the program.I do not know. You should know your customers better than anyone and adapt accordingly."
:::: Use Google Analytics, survey forms, and newsletter promotions. It will benefit you.
